Domes of Elounda, Greece

Domes of Elounda is just a short flight south of the Greek mainland. This island getaway blends seamlessly with Crete’s natural beauty but also offers a slew of five-star amenities, like a world-class spa and meals by Michelin-starred chef Lefteri Lazarou.

Guest suites are built into dome-topped two-story structures that climb the sea-facing cliffs. Views are equal opportunity: the sparkling sea fans out from each of the balconies, and each has a hot tub or private pool for relaxing and taking in the Mediterranean splendor everywhere you look.

The Domes of Elounda offers 92-rooms (with 80 suites and 12 villas) and is among the most stunning on the island. The superlatives start with the sublime setting — along the northeast coast of Crete, with jaw-dropping views of the Gulf of Korthos and the Venetian fortress ruins on the nearby island of Spinalonga, just a short boat ride away.

The hotel is a mix of villas topped with domes and suites (all with sea views) that appear to tumble down the cliff toward the sapphire sea. Each has either a private pool or a Jacuzzi crowning the balcony. Marble and granite bathrooms, twice-daily maid service and a pillow menu are among the hotel’s standard five-star touches.
